The length of the Texas rig line determines how far below the surface the anchor sits and how freely the decoy can swing in current and wind. Shorter 30-inch lines work well in shallower water with light current, keeping decoys tightly positioned in your spread. Longer 42-inch lines are better suited for deeper water and areas with stronger current or tidal movement, giving decoys more range of motion and a more natural appearance.

To rig a decoy Texas-style, thread the Texas rig line through the hole in the decoy keel from front to back. Attach the snap swivel to the keel loop and the weighted anchor to the free end of the line. The decoy will sit on the water with the anchor below the surface, allowing it to swing freely on the line without tangling. The rig can be wound around the decoy body for easy transport and deployment.

The easiest method for tangle-free storage is to wrap the line around the decoy body before placing it in a decoy bag. Texas rig lines are designed to wrap cleanly around standard decoy profiles. Using a quality decoy bag with divided compartments also helps prevent tangles by keeping individual decoys separated during transport. You need one rig line per decoy. If you plan to run a 12-decoy spread, you need 12 rig lines. Yes. Texas rig lines and their hardware are designed for use in both freshwater and saltwater environments. For saltwater and brackish water hunting, rinse your lines and hardware with fresh water after each use to reduce corrosion and extend the life of the snap swivels and anchor hardware. Store lines dry between hunts.
